Registry Office (Civil Status)

The Civil Status Office of an Embassy or Consulate is that institution that deals with:

  • the transmission of civil status certificates issued abroad to the competent municipalities for transcription in Italy. In particular, consular offices receive birth, marriage, divorce and death certificates issued by foreign authorities and transmit them to Italian municipalities for transcription.

TRANSCRIPTION OF CIVIL STATUS ACTS

  • The issuance of certificates, on the basis of office records, attesting to the ‘civil status’ of each individual: free status, citizenship, individuality, marital capacity and Coutume.

CERTIFICATES

  • Of marriage publications for Italian citizens residing in this consular district who intend to celebrate their marriage in Italy

MARRIAGE BANNS 

  • An Italian citizen who has established his residency abroad, in order to register births, marriages, deaths and obtain certain certificates, must first register with the Registry Office of Italians Resident Abroad (A.I.R.E.)
