Codice Fiscale (Tax Code)

From 15 July 2024, Italian citizens registered with AIRE in the district of this Consulate General can directly download the tax code attribution certificate via the FAST -IT portal.

1.What is the TAX CODE?
The tax code is a personal alphanumeric code indispensable for any person who must carry out financial transactions in Italy, in particular in the real estate sector and/or in the case of inheritance, and is therefore also issued to those who are not Italian citizens.

2.Who can request it?

ITALIAN CITIZENS

All Italian citizens regularly registered with AIRE in this consular district and foreign citizens resident in a Belgian municipality belonging to this district (provinces of Brussels-Capital, East Flanders, West Flanders, Limburg, Antwerp, Flemish Brabant and Walloon Brabant).

FOREIGN CITIZENS RESIDING IN THE JURISDICTION OF THIS CONSULATE GENERAL

The foreign citizens who are not resident in Italy must specifically delegate a person to submit the Tax Code request form directly to the offices of the Agenzia delle Entrate located in Italy, pursuant to art. 1 of the Ministerial Decree of 17 May 2001, no. 281.

The addresses of the Revenue Agency offices can be found on the following website

www.agenziaentrate.it

Foreign citizens who need a tax code to purchase real estate or for other commercial/financial activities in Italy can delegate their representative to request the tax code from the Agenzia delle Entrate on their behalf.

The Italian Consular Office is competent to deliver tax codes for foreign citizens only in cases in which the tax code is necessary for procedures to be carried out online and/or for which the foreigner is unable to delegate a person in charge of the request to the Agenzia delle Entrate.

The request for a tax code, to be made by filling out the appropriate form, must be submitted together with a copy of an identity document and an indication of the reasons for the request.

Citizens of non-EU countries who intend to stay in Italy will be assigned a tax code:

– by the Immigration Desk, located in each Prefecture and responsible for issuing entry clearance to foreign citizens who request a residence permit for employment or family reunification;

– by the Police Headquarters, the State Police office, for foreign citizens who request other types of residence permits.

Citizens of EU countries who intend to stay in Italy can request a tax code by submitting form AA4/8 to a territorial office of the Agenzia delle Entrate. The request must be motivated and accompanied by a valid document (passport or identity card). Students who need a tax code for pre-enrollment at the University can obtain it automatically on the UNIVERSITALY Portal during the pre-enrollment application. The assignment of the Tax Code can be completed at the Immigration Office or at the Police Headquarters when requesting a residence permit, for non-EU students; by the Agenzia Delle Entrate by presenting form AA4/8, for EU students.
