1. Civil status certificates to be requested in ITALY (or online)<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The Consulate General does not<\/strong> issue birth, marriage, death or divorce certificates, as these are the sole responsibility<\/strong> of the local authority in Italy (Tribunal, in the case of divorce).
\nThese civil status certificates<\/strong> must, therefore, be requested directly from the Italian Commune<\/strong> by the interested party himself.
\nItalian citizens registered with AIRE<\/strong>, as well as those residing in Italy, may request civil status certificates online,<\/strong> through the ANPR<\/a> platform. They can be requested for themselves or for cohabiting Italian family members. Issuance is free of charge<\/strong> and possible only on condition of having a digital identity<\/strong>, CIE, Spid or CNS. Alternatively, it is necessary to contact the municipality directly.<\/p>\n

a) Which certificates can be issued by the Consulate General<\/strong><\/p>\n

1. Certificate of free\/civil status<\/strong>, stating the applicant’s marital status (single; married\/separated; divorced, etc.) (trilingual FR, IT, NL)<\/strong><\/p>\n

2. Certificate of the applicant’s Italian citizenship<\/strong> (trilingual FR, IT, NL)<\/strong><\/p>\n

3. Certificate of individuality\/anagraphic concordance<\/strong>, certifying the uniqueness of the applicant’s person in the case of discrepancies in the applicant’s personal data between different documents (in FR or NL – specify in the request)<\/strong><\/p>\n

4. Certificate of legal capacity to marry\/Nulla Osta<\/strong>, certifying the applicant’s capacity to marry an identified person. This certificate is necessary in the case of a marriage celebrated in a country other than Belgium or Italy (International Multilingualism)<\/strong><\/p>\n

5. Coutume certificate<\/strong>, a certificate of legislation relating to different legal institutions (marriage, filiation, attribution of a double surname, etc.), attesting to the legislation in force in Italy (in FR or NL – please specify in the request)<\/strong><\/p>\n

Certificates 1), 2), 3), 4)<\/strong> may only be issued to AIRE members of this Consulate General<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Citizens who do not reside<\/strong> in this consular district must apply directly to the Italian municipality<\/strong> of residence, have the certificate translated by a sworn translator (LISTA<\/a>) and legalise the translator’s signature with the local authorities.
\nOnly certificate 5),<\/strong> Coutume, may be issued to non-residents and non-registered persons.<\/p>\n

b) How and when to apply for a certificate<\/strong><\/p>\n

Certificate requests must be made directly at the Consulate General’s counter<\/strong> (Rue de Livourne 38) from Monday to Friday, between 11.30 am and 12.30 pm, without an appointment.<\/strong>
\nCertificates will be issued on sight, provided that the applicants’ consular file and AIRE registration are up to date.
\nPayments<\/strong> must be made exclusively by bank card or credit card<\/strong> (preferably Bancontact<\/strong>).<\/p>\n

c) Forms<\/strong><\/p>\n

There are two types<\/strong> of forms that must be downloaded and brought to the Consulate already filled out<\/strong>:<\/p>\n

– Richiesta di certificato per Capacit\u00e0 Matrimoniale<\/strong><\/a> (nulla osta), to be used only<\/strong> if the Italian citizen marries in a State other than Italy and Belgium<\/strong>
\n– Request_of_Certificate<\/a><\/strong>, to be used to request all the other types of certificates<\/strong><\/p>\n
