The Headquarters

The Italian Consulate General in Brussels is located at 38 Rue de Livourne and was inaugurated on 27 May 2024 by Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Antonio Tajani.

The building on Rue de Livourne (a street parallel to Avenue Louise) was built in the neoclassical style between 1870 and 1880 by Henri Rieck, one of the best-known architects during the reign of King Leopold II of the Belgians.

With contributions from some of the major Italian companies of the time (Fiat, Olivetti, Pirelli, Martini & Rossi etc.), the building was purchased by the Kingdom of Italy in 1932 to become the ‘House of Italians’ and to spread the image of Italy abroad in view of the Brussels Expo of 1935.

Fully redeemed by the Italian State with the birth of the Republic, it currently houses the Consulate General of Italy and the Italian Cultural Institute.
