Francesco Varriale
is an Italian diplomat born in Naples on March 16, 1977.
He holds a degree in Law from the University of Florence and a degree in Political Science from the University of Roma Tre (bachelor’s degree) and entered the diplomatic career on December 21, 2003.
From 2004 to June 2008, he worked at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the General Directorate for Italians Citizens Abroad, dealing with language and culture courses for Italians abroad and cultural initiatives for the Italian community, as well as managing a program for the development of the Regions of Southern Italy financed by the European Union.
From June 2008 to September 2012, at the Consulate General in Shanghai, he was Head of the Commercial Office and Community Services Section, handling sensitive cases of disputed minors.
From October 2012 to June 2016, he worked at the Economic Office of the Embassy of Italy in Turkey, heading it for 3 years.
From June 2016 to February 2021, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, he was Head of the Foreign Investment Office of the Directorate General for Country Promotion and Chief Secretary to the Director General. In this role, he participated in the absorption phase of foreign trade competencies from the Ministry of Productive Activities.
From March 2021 to June 2024, he served as Head of the Economic and Innovation Office of the Embassy of Italy in New Delhi.
Since July 1, 2024, he is the Consul General of Italy in Brussels.
Francesco Varriale is married to Marcella and has two children, Serena and Luca.
